Brick Mason Apprentice

We are currently seeking an Apprentice to join our Award-winning growing team. This is a full-time labor-intensive role with an opportunity to progress within the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform masonry to company's standard of quality, under the direction of the Foreman, according to the plans and specifications. Bring discrepancies and special conditions to the attention of the Project Manager.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, reinforcing a 'safety first' attitude with the team. Care for tools, equipment, materials, and job site
  • Familiar with any or all the following:
    • construction, alteration, repair, and installation of structures made of block, stone, brick, and concrete utilizing hand tools and power tools of the masonry trade.
    • lay out of foundations, shoot elevations with transit or level, construct and set forms for foundations, headwalls, and curbs.
    • selecting types of cement, plaster mortar, blocks, stone, or brick to be used
    • setting stone, brick, and block, applying knowledge of stress and strain and ratio of mixes and bonds
    • measuring and cutting stone, brick, and block according to specifications
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Possess refined modern stone and brick masonry skills, appropriate to apprenticeship level.
  • Able to meet all physical requirements.
  • Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft).
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
  • High school or equivalent preferred
  • Clean Driver's License
  • Background check required.
  • A love for history and/or Historic Architecture.
  • Understanding of heritage masonry skills and techniques is an asset.

Schedule

  • 8-hour shift - Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Location

  • Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

Compensation

  • Hourly position based on current Local 1 Union rates, starting at $24/hr.
